Art+Works

...is the name I chose to emphasize the way that art serves a function: its function is beauty. Art is the portal between our day-to-day reality and the life of the imagination. I like art that tells a story with pictures. Doesn't have to be realistic, just has to tell me something about the human condition.

Who I am

The first art I can really remember making (besides one of a horse under an apple tree that I made in kindergarten) was a series of rocket ship interiors that a friend and I got into making in the second grade. I'm a cancer, and we are known for our nesting traits, and imagining spaces to inhabit has always intrigued me.

I like to paint. I also enjoy talking about art, especially sharing the history and techniques of painting and drawing. A lot of my commissioned work is for things that look historical, but what I really love is taking the antique and injecting contemporary elements into it. Rococo ornament with a skateboarder inside it, or repeating ornaments of traffic signals and truck bumpers. The point of classicism is not so much the iconography as it is a method of working with order and forethought to create something that needs no verbal explanations to be enjoyed.
